Tragic Incident at Juhu Koliwada Beach: Cyclone 'Biparjoy' Claims Lives of Three Boys

Three teenage boys, namely Dharmesh Bhujiya, Shubham Bhogania, and Jay Tajbhariya, who had ventured into the rough sea at Juhu Koliwada in Mumbai on Monday, have tragically lost their lives. Officials have confirmed that these three boys were rescued by the police but were declared brought dead upon reaching Cooper Hospital. Presently, one boy is still reported missing.

The distressing incident took place in the western suburbs at Juhu Koliwada. Despite warnings about the rough sea conditions caused by Cyclone 'Biparjoy' and high tide, a total of eight boys chose to venture to the deep end of the jetty and sat on the ledge there. While one boy was rescued by a local fisherman, three others managed to escape. The search and rescue operations were suspended by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) due to adverse weather conditions and darkness at 11 pm on Monday.

Efforts were made to conduct a search operation using a Navy chopper at 8:20 pm, and diving teams were kept on standby. However, they were unable to be deployed due to the unfavorable sea conditions.

Another boy involved in the incident has been identified as Manish Bhogania, aged 15. The boy who was rescued is named Dipesh Karan, aged 16. The three individuals who managed to run away from the spot are Dharam Nitesh, aged 16, Kaushal Tajpariya, aged 15, and Ankit Bhujia, aged 16. All of them reside on Dutt Mandir Road, Vakola.

Authorities have issued warnings to people and fishermen, urging them to refrain from venturing into the sea due to the perilous conditions in anticipation of cyclone 'Biparjoy' making landfall on the Gujarat coast on June 15.

Given the influx of visitors at Juhu beach, where most of the lifeguards are stationed, the mentioned area of the beach is often devoid of lifeguards. A fisherman remarked that while locals are aware of the dangers posed by the rough sea, young individuals and tourists often underestimate the risks and venture into the sea. The sea's extreme turbulence can even pose challenges for the fishermen themselves when it comes to rescue operations or maneuvering their boats.
